The home of Jim Nabors, famous for playing Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle, USMC, in the 1960s, was recently listed by Hawai‘i Life’s Choi Group for $14,888,000. Nabors, an actor, comedian and singer, had lived in the home for many years, and if you were lucky, you may have seen him perform somewhere in the Islands prior to his passing in late 2017.

The oceanfront home sits at the end of Diamond Head Beach, near the area known to locals as Cromwell’s. Surrounded by new and renovated mansions, and just a few doors down from Doris Duke’s Shangri La, the home has classic Hawai‘i charm, with moss rock walls, pillars and a large lānai overlooking the pool and ocean. The 5,877-square-foot house has five bedrooms and six baths and sits on 25,059 square feet of land. The lot has 170 linear feet of oceanfront, offering a wide, gorgeous view from the lānai.

The home’s listing garnered national press, with outlets like Variety calling it dated and picking on some of its opulent décor; however, they missed the point: The home, like its longtime owner, is a local classic. It’s graceful, thoughtful and timeless.
