Go Crazy for Froyo All Over Again

Formerly known as Tutti Frutti in Kaimukī, Stir Yogurt, Coffee & More mixes it up with a new menu.

Just when you thought the froyo craze was cooling down, the owners of Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt in Kaimukī went independent, renovated their shop and reopened as Stir Yogurt, Coffee & More. Much of the space remains the same—the self-serve yogurt stations are intact, there’s ample seating and there’s a shelf full of children’s books.

When we checked it out, there were 14 froyo flavors available, including everything from standard chocolate and vanilla to more exotic choices including mango, pineapple and stirred fruit. Most of the flavors taste just as you’d expect, with the exception of cheesecake, which tastes more like a mix of vanilla and plain tart. Our favorite is the stirred fruit, which goes down like a smooth, refreshing sherbet.

Toppings are an important part of the self-serve yogurt experience, and Stir does not disappoint. We counted roughly 50 options, which should cover just about anything you could ever want on your yogurt, including nuts, (very fresh) fruit, cookies, candies, sprinkles and even Hello Panda crackers. There’s also condensed milk, various fruit syrups, honey, chocolate drizzle and Nutella.

For those not so crazy about froyo, Stir’s menu also includes coffee, smoothies, acai bowls and mochi waffles. The acai bowls seem pretty standard, with almonds, bananas, blueberries, strawberries and honey topping the acai, though they’re a little too sour to our taste.

Fortunately, we saved the mochi waffles for last. The shop normally carries at least five flavors, including plain. The choco strawberry waffle was absolutely delightful. The plate included three snack-sized waffles, covered in chocolate chips, whipped cream, strawberries and chocolate drizzle. Though the mix of toppings is obviously perfect, it’s really the waffles themselves we’re hooked on. Cooked just right, they’re a little chewy and ever so slightly sweet. Though they’re served as a dessert, we’d have them for breakfast any day.
