Get These Curated Allison Izu Fashions Delivered to Your Doorstep
Designer Allison Izu Song launches new Izu Box shopping program.
That fashion magician Allison Izu Song has done it again. After dreaming up the perfect petite jean and creating a line of covetable knitwear, she’s on to her next act, launching the Izu Box, a new shopping program in which boxes of chic Allison Izu apparel appear on your doorstep. Cloud of smoke not included.
The concept is genius—not only does it feed my fashion addiction, but it does so while appealing to my innate sense of laziness (why drive to the mall when you can just drag ass to the mail box) and my love of adorably packaged surprises.
Here’s how it works. The Izu Box comes in three varieties:
Photos: Courtesy of Allison Izu
First, there’s the Pre-Set Box, sold individually via the Allison Izu website. This consists of three color-coordinated pieces, all discounted at 15 percent off the original prices. Izu Song will be offering four fresh groupings every month.
Second, there’s the Make Your Own Box, which is essentially the same as the Pre-Set Box except that it’s filled with three specific pieces that you select yourself from the website.
Finally, there’s the Monthly Membership Box, which you can sign up to receive every 30 or 90 days. This box scores you a whopping 30 percent discount and the three pieces included are custom selected for you by Izu Song herself. You just fill out a survey at sign-up to establish your wardrobe preferences.
All items can be exchanged or returned for store credit at the Allison Izu boutique in Kaimukī or via mail—each box allots you one pre-paid return label. But to retain your discount, you’ll need to keep at least two of the items.
A few of us at the mag were lucky enough to get an early go of the Monthly Membership Box. Scroll down to see how it went:

My style requests: High waists, draped tops, chic prints.
What I got (clockwise): Andie Cowl Top, Cedar Street Pencil Skirt and Sana Top
Keeping: I love that the Sana top can also be worn off one shoulder. The pencil skirt fits like a glove without being too clingy.
Exchanging: The Andie top was a little too boxy on me. Thinking to swap it for the new Alex Cowl Top—I’m always a sucker for a good stripe.
Catherine Toth Fox, Food and Dining Editor (See first photo, above)
My style requests: Muted hues, fitted tanks, sporty silhouettes.
What I got (clockwise): Rhea Tank, Sunrise Sweatpant and Sami Chiffon Top
Keeping: The Rhea Tank is totally my style—casual, comfy, classic. I was pleasantly surprised by the Sunrise Sweatpant since I don't normally wear printed bottoms, but it worked and the outfit got me out of my comfort zone.
Exchanging: I'm not good with layers, so I don't have the proper undergarment for the sheer Sami Top.
Overall: With an infant at home, it's hard to get out and shop. I love the idea that locally designed clothes just arrive on your doorstep. And the little style cards Allison included, which share the story behind each piece, how she wears it and what she loves about it, made the experience so personal and special.
Robbie Dingeman, Editor in Chief
My style requests: Graphic print tops, skinny pants, polished pieces for the office.
What I got (clockwise): Claire Top, Tanna Dress, Coral Street Skinny Pant
Keeping: The Claire Top’s rust print is bolder than what I’d normally pick out for myself and the side pockets make it feel sharp, stylish, yet still practical. The Coral Street Skinny Pant works great for me, comfortable yet still clearly dress pants (not leggings!).
Exchanging: The Tanna Dress is clingier than I’d normally wear in the office and fancier than I’d wear most weekends. I’ll swap it for another top to mix and match with the navy pants and the black pair of Allison Izu pants I already own.
Overall: This concept works for me: great-looking clothes selected by someone who has an eye for fashion but knows what I love or loathe, too. It felt like the best kind of indulgent to have Allison pick things out for me, so I don’t have to spend a lot of time shopping but can look like I do!
Stacey Makiya, Senior Fashion Editor
My style requests: Nothing too tight, flattering fits in black and punchy hues.
What I got: Yuriko Sweater, Jane Split Top and Waikīkī Jeans.
Keeping: The Waikīkī Jeans is a total staple piece that I can wear all year long. My first impression was that they’d be too tight, especially with my thunder thighs. But, it fit, and, by some miracle, made my legs look long and lean.
Exchanging: Although I loved the color of the Yuriko Sweater, it was a little too loose for my style. And, I’m still deciding on the hint-of-sexy Jane Split Top.
Overall: I love the concept! It’s like having your fashionable friend, who happens to be a kickass designer, shop for you. I was truly impressed with the attention to detail—each box included a return policy card and a handwritten thank you note from Allison. I would definitely do this again!
