Fyyre and Ice Cream
Everywhere you turn, there’s another fro-yo place popping up. But you’ve had your fill of cookie-cutter frozen desserts.
So here’s the scoop on the Islands’ coolest new treat: ColdFyyre Cookie Creems— a delicious take on classic ice cream sandwiches that pair home-baked cookies with from-scratch ice cream.
The flavor combinations of ice cream and cookies make these little desserts completely unique. Shortbread cookies like buttery macadamia nut, chocolate chip and almond are paired with ice cream in mint chocolate chip, Kona coffee, vanilla bean, Kahuku apple banana, Big Island chocolate, even a sea asparagus flavor that tastes just like green tea.
Cooked up by Gerry Nakashima, a graphic designer and former KCC culinary student, the ice cream treats are hand-made from scratch using local, organic ingredients that are all natural, and preservative and additive free.
You can buy the sandwiches pre-made or have your own custom creation “fyyred” up (the ice cream is heated with a torch to adhere the cookie ends) right in front of you at one of ColdFyyre’s pop-up stands.
So you can give bland, boring fro-yo the cold shoulder. Select pre-made ColdFyyre Cookie Creems are available at the Red Ginger Café and Giftshop, Manoa Marketplace. Purchase them made-to-order at the Kailua Farmers Market, 609 Kailua Road, and at the ColdFyyre kiosk opening in Waikiki (Royal Hawaiian Ave. across from DFS) at the end of November. And indulge in a little sweet relief.
