Friday, March 18 – Afternoon Update
Yasue will be visiting her mom at the hospital today. Her mother called to say her room is much colder today. The patients were served congee (soft rice) and miso soup for breakfast. Her mother is splitting one of the apples Yasue received the other day with the other three patients in the room.
This weekend, The Fab 2 will clearly need to continue all our efforts to get food to Sendai. We have a cushion now, but, in time, will need to get more food there. Yasue said the stores are still closed. It’s frustrating. News reports say there is food, but, no gas to move it to Sendai. Or, there is food and gas but the roads are not clear. Or, there is food, gas and clear roads but no drivers to take it from Tokyo to Sendai because the failing Fukushima power plant sits in between the two cities. Here’s what I know. There is upwards of a million hungry, cold people waiting for help. Soon, the helicopters currently being used for Rescue will have to mobilize for Relief.
