The promotion is scheduled to take place in the restaurant’s The Gallery private dining room every Monday night (though please call to see if it’s still on each week). The next "Dining In the Dark" is scheduled for Monday, February 15th, with orientation promptly scheduled at 7 p.m.
Formaggio Grill developed the new promotion in response to our society’s current fixation on information overload and visual stimulation. They invite you to take an hour or two to abandon your vision "in exchange for a new, more stimulating dining experience."
It’s a concept they think will attract a number of adventurous diners or could be fun for social groups or corporate parties.
As you arrive, you are welcomed with a few words of orientation, then you are given a blindfold to wear throughout the event.
You are served a four-course set menu with four different wine pairings. Its all designed to be a very sensual experience. By taking one of your senses away, you can discover a heightened awareness of your other senses. The tastes, smells and textures of the meal and wine take on an added significance.
Formaggio Grill invites all diners to "playfully challenge your palate to tease out the mysteries of the menu."
The environment is safe and playful, one in which diners could relax, expand into their senses and "drink" it all in. You may even surprise yourself with how well you can eat without seeing.
For more information on the "Dining in the Dark" promotion, visit the Formaggio Grill events page on formaggio808.com.
The cost is $75 per person (plus tax and gratuity) and includes the 4-course meal with wine pairings.
For reservations, call 808-263-2633. When you make your reservation, please let them know if you prefer a vegetarian meal or if you have any food allergies.

Not quite that adventurous?
Start out slow with Patrick’s Blind Wine Tasting. Advanced sommelier Patrick Okubo challenges you to pick out the varietals in a flight of three wines. You’re given a tasting sheet with descriptions of the varietals and some of their common characteristics. Then after you have everything chosen, Patrick will walk you through each wine and let you know if you’ve gotten it right or not. No blindfold required.
If you enjoy wine and the different nuances, it can be a lot of fun to do.
