Foodland Announces Senior Shopping Hours Because of Coronavirus Concerns

All stores across the state will have a senior-only hour three days a week. Tamura's Market Wahiawā, Target and Whole Foods Market also add special shopping times.

Foodland was the first Hawai‘i grocery store to open seniors-only shopping hours.

The local company made the announcement on Instagram on Tuesday, March 17. Here is how it will work:

Stores statewide will be open exclusively for people 60 years and older–each can be accompanied by a caregiver or family member–for the first hour of business on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Exact times depend on each store's opening time.
Seniors will also receive the 5% discount during this time.
The senior shopping hours will start Thursday, March 19 and go through March 31.

During these hours, Foodland employees will continue increased cleaning and sanitation practices. They will be able to help any seniors who need assistance. Foodland Chairman and CEO Jenai Wall is also thanking non-seniors for their understanding.

All items at the self-service bars will be prepacked for pick up. All bars at Foodland Farms will also be closed until April 1. People can also check for Foodland To You, the store's online shopping option. Delivery is available to zip codes near Foodland Farms Ala Moana and Pearl City or you can do curbside pickup.

Tamura's Market in Wahiawā will also start senior-only shopping for customers 60 years and older beginning on Friday, March 20. Hours will be 7:45 to 8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday until March 30.

Target and Whole Foods Market also announced senior-only shopping for the first hour of business on Wednesdays. Both stores offer pickup options and will close earlier. Whole Foods has shut down all self-serve options.
