Fit To Eat

www.leichic.com It takes about 19 minutes of brisk walking to burn the 98 calories in a can of Coca-Cola with lime. Imagine how long it’ll take you to burn off that 4,000-calorie Thanksgiving meal.

You may as well start working out now.

So in preparation for indulging in 260-calorie slices of turkey, a 107-calorie serving of stuffing and that 300-calorie slice of pumpkin pie, consider ramping up your workout.

It’s simple (but that doesn’t mean easy) at Hardass Fitness in Kaka‘ako, which posts daily workouts on its website. The exercise program − called CrossFit − combines strength and conditioning exercises that involve multiple muscle groups.

The workout of the day – which can almost always be done outside a gym setting – usually involves some combination of Olympic-style lifting, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, jumping and short runs. The workouts are all named (a recent one was called “This really sucks”) and take about 20 minutes to do. That means you can squeeze in one of these workouts between washing Thanksgiving dishes and finalizing your Christmas shopping list for Black Friday.

Here’s an example:
“Chelsea”
Complete one round each minute for up to 30 minutes.
• 5 pull-ups
• 10 push-ups
• 15 air squats

So in about 20 minutes, you could burn off that extra scoop of mashed potatoes.

And get an early start on your New Year’s resolutions too.
