Island Pork

“I am not against butchering pigs. But I am against being sold pork (or anything else) that says it is Island produced [when it is not]. I don’t like being duped. Support your local farmer!”—AN ONLINE READER FROM HILO

Want to read why pork can be labeled “Island produced,” even if the pigs are merely shipped in for slaughter? See our August 2008 story “Island Pork?” by Sheila Sarhangi.

Books in Kakaako

I was dismayed to find that you omitted mention of our Bookmobile in your March Kakaako “Field Guide.” Especially in this time of economic disaster, gently used books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, cards, bookmarks and a large selection of children’s books are popular items [for sale]. The Bookmobile is on Pohukaina Street between Coral and Keawe Streets, ewa of Mother Waldron Park. —MARLISE TELLANDER, VOLUNTEER, FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY OF HAWAII

Obama’s Hawaii Background

“At last, a realistic assessment of President Obama and his Hawaii background.”—RIANNA WILLIAMS, HONOLULU

In our January story on the winners of our annual Hale Aina Awards, The Melting Pot restaurant’s phone number was incorrect. The phone
