Fall Break Guide 2018

The most popular camps and programs for fall break.

Honolulu Zoo Camp is one of several programs for local children during fall break.

For most schools on O’ahu, fall break is from Oct. 8 to Oct. 12. If your family has no plans to travel off-island that week, consider signing up your children for one of these popular programs and camps. You might want to register soon–because spaces are filling up fast! 

Lyon Arboretum

What: “Rainforest Adventures” will have science investigations, tours of the arboretum, cooking, arts and crafts and hikes. The program is from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with drop-off as early as 8 a.m. 

When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 12.  

Ages: Grades K-6.

Cost: $250

Deadline: Oct. 1

Art Explorium

What: Art Explorium does not have a camp during fall break, however, children can drop in daily for “Open Studio” sessions and workshops taught by guest artists.

When: Daily. Check website for specific times and classes.

Ages: All ages for Open Studio sessions. Most workshops are recommended for ages 5 and up.

Cost: $5 for Open Studio; $15 to $20 for workshops.

Deadline: Online registration closes when a workshop is full. Students do not have to register for Open Studio sessions.

Hawaiʻi Children’s Discovery Center

What: Fall Break Discovery Camp is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with after-camp care available from 4 to 4:30 p.m. The “Magical Creatures” theme will highlight mermaids, dragons, unicorns and other mythical animals. Lunch is available for purchase. Students may bring their own lunches, as well. Bring water in a labeled container.

When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 12

Ages: 5-8

Cost: $250 for members; $275 for non-members; $10 for after-camp care.

Deadline: Register until full.

Hawai‘i Nature Center

What: O’ahu Nature Adventure Camp is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended care available until 5 p.m. Students will do arts and crafts, hike in the forest, conduct stream investigations, and participate in insect safaris and off-site field trips. Pack a daily water bottle, snacks, lunch, sunscreen and a change of clothes.

When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 12

Ages: 6-11

Cost: $300 for members; $375 for non-members; $30 per day for after-camp care, or $120 per week for after-camp care.

Deadline: Register until full.

Honolulu Museum of Art

What: Fall Break Art Camp is from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Students will hone skills in drawing, painting, sculpting and printmaking, and will tour the art museum. Bring a daily lunch, water and snacks.

When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 12

Ages: 9-11

Cost: $390

Deadline: As of Aug. 29, classes for ages 6-8 were sold out. There were 10 openings for the 9-11 age group.

Honolulu Zoo

What: Honolulu Zoo Camp is from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with after-camp care from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Lunch is available for purchase, and students may also bring their own lunches. Bring water in a refillable container. Registration for zoo members begins Sept. 3. Registration for non-members begins on Sept. 6.

When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 12

Ages: Camp Menehune (4-5 years); Camp Imi Loa (6-7 years); and Camp Wildlife Koa (8-10 years).

Cost: $310 for members. $360 for non-members; $50 to $60 for after-camp care.

Deadline: Registration opens to members on Sept. 3; for non-members, registration is Sept. 6.

I Got Skills Soccer Camp

What: Fall Break Soccer Camp is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in two locations, Central Oʻahu Regional Park and Waiʻalae Iki Park. Drop-off is at 8:30 a.m., and pick-up is at 3:30 p.m. Students will improve their speed and agility, learn new soccer skills, and make new friends. Bring a daily lunch, snacks and water.

When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 12

Ages: 6-14

Cost: $225

Deadline: Register by Oct. 5

Kama‘āina Kids

What: Camp Kama‘āina Kids Fall Break Camp will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will incorporate arts and crafts, games, sports, and more fun. As of Aug. 29, Kamaʻāina Kids had not finalized details for regular and specialty camps. Please call for details, or visit the website later.

When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 12

Ages: Grades K-6

Cost: $165 weekly rate via online payment; $175 standard weekly rate; $34 daily rate via online payment; $36 standard daily rate.

Kroc Center Hawai‘i

What: Kroc Center offers three camps: “Fun in the Son” fall day camp, “Club Z! Defenders of Wildlife” where students learn about safety, sustainability and the outdoors; and an art specialty camp titled “Clay now, Youʻre a Star!” where theyʻll learn pottery techniques.

When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 12

Ages: Grades 1-6 for fall camp; grades K-6 for wildlife camp; ages 8-12 for specialty art camp.

Cost: Fun in the Son, $170 to $180; wildlife camp, $222 to $245; and art camp $196 to $210.

Deadline: Register until full.

Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawai’i

What: Horse Camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is for riders, from beginner to advanced. Campers will ride in the morning, and the afternoon will be spent on horsemanship training and activities. Bring lunch, drinks, sunscreen, covered shoes and long pants.

When: Oct. 8 to Oct. 12

Ages: 8-15

Cost: $350
