Explore Stories of Hawai‘i’s Native People with Pōhaku at the Hawai‘i Theatre

Christopher Morgan & Artists: Pōhaku Connects Hula with Modern Dance on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The Hawaiian word for stone, Pōhaku explores universal themes in the story of Hawai‘i’s native people, including land loss and fractured identity. The performance, which combines the artistic elements of storytelling, hula, modern dance, classical music and projection design into one compelling performance, incorporates some of Morgan’s personal stories of culture and heritage, as well as those of his late cousin, kumu hula John Kaimikaua. A question-and-answer session with Morgan and his creative team will follow the performance.

Christopher Morgan & Artists: Pōhaku is the first performance offering greatly discounted tickets for low-income O‘ahu residents as part of the Hawai‘i Theatre Center’s ARTS FOR ALL program. Supported by a grant from the City and County of Honolulu, the program aims to make world-class performing arts experiences more accessible by offering $5 tickets for all who qualify.
