ESPN Sports Festival

ESPN 1420 is throwing its first sports festival this Saturday at Kakaako Gateway Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. There will be sports clinics ranging from football to soccer for kids to enjoy, and a lacrosse demonstration by the Aloha Youth Lacrosse Association. There will also be live entertainment, including performances by Hoku Award-winners Brother Noland, as well as food eating contests, a car wash fundraiser by the Rainbow Warrior dancers and prize giveaways. Food booths will be set up around the park, including options from Hukilau Honolulu, Blazin’ Steaks and Tanioka’s Seafood. And, there will be a sports marketplace with more than 20 sport-related vendors.

“The summer is usually a slow time for sports fans, so we wanted to generate something that would get them talking,” says Lance Tominaga, of ESPN 1420. “We simply want people to have a good time and promote sports for the next generation of sports fans.” Proceeds from the day-long festival will benefit non-profit youth organizations in Hawaii.
