Dream Come Shoe

You’ve always had dreams. Not the one where you have cocktails with Christian Bale, but more like the one you shared with all island girls growing up—life in a big city, trotting past sky-rises and artsy neighborhoods, all while wearing fabulous shoes as comfy as your familiar rubbah slippahs.

Sao Paulo-based shoe label Melissa’s Plastic Dreams lets you live out that fantasy, by teaming up with famous architects and designers from around the globe to create plastic shoes that are a totally modern and high-fashion riff on your old-school jellies.

Recently they teamed with furniture and industrial designers The www.leichic.comCampana Brothers for two shoe styles: the Campana Zig Zag, a ballet-style flat with interlacing strings, and the Campana Favela Flocked shoe, a similar flat style that draws inspiration from the patchwork material style of Brazilian slum architecture.

Made from hypoallergenic, flexible PVC, each unique design in Melissa’s Winter ’08 line travels easily from day to night, jeans to cocktail, while you show off wearable, sculptural art. The upcoming Summer ’09 collection includes a Zig Zag style designed by Vivian Westwood, and other new styles by London architect Zaha Hadid.

These shoes will keep you walking, anywhere your fantasies take you.
Even the streets of this old town.
