Deductive Riesling
The time you left your purse in the cab. The night you may have (but can’t remember) kissed your coworker. An entire V-Lounge pizza consumed alone at 3 a.m.
You wish you could say your biggest zins only happen after three glasses. But the fuzzy logic starts the moment you become completely overwhelmed in the wine aisle. You hit an all-time merlot when bleary eyed, you grabbed a bottle, took it to a party and discovered it was Boone’s Strawberry Hill.
Luckily, you’ve got a new D.D., that’s Designated Decision-Maker. The iPhone and Android app Nirvino, created by Punahou grad Meli James, instantly arms you with reviews of millions of wines to help you find the right sip.
Nirvino users write the recommendations, so you don’t need a sommelier’s palate to appreciate the selections. You can search for wines by type, region or name, then sort the results by price, age or rating. There’s even a list of budget bottles.
Many reviews come with food pairing suggestions, and you can even add your own tasting notes so that cocktail hour won’t completely wipe out memories of a bad blanc.
Talk about da-vine intervention.
The Nirvino Wine Ratings Guide app is available for iPhone and Android for $3.99 on its website.
