Custom home on Mariner's Ridge

The exterior of this home at the top of Mariner's Ridge initially caught my eye, but it was the amazing view that really made me feel like Queen of the Hill. (Click here for details.)

I know it's been voggy lately, but on very clear days, you can see Molokai, Lanai, and Maui from every room in the house. It's also one of only a handful of homes overlooking the farmland in the valley below.

Although it sits on an 11,478-square-foot lot, the yard itself is fairly small, which cuts down on maintenance. More space is devoted to its circular driveway, which provides ample parking in addition to the two-car garage (which also has an attic area for more storage).

The 2,100-square-foot home itself is pretty cool; it was custom-built by the original owner, and listing agent Sheri Murasaki, the current owner, has architect-designed add-ons. The residence has upgrades that include granite counter tops, travertine floors, high ceilings and-as you walk around the house, you'll see-interesting built-ins.

The three bedrooms each have an ensuite bathroom, and none of the bedrooms are over another, so they're very quiet. The master suite is on its own floor, complete with walk-in closet, soaking tub, a shower large enough for two, a sauna and a wet bar.

Since the house is spacious with an open layout, it has lots of natural light, and is breezy and cool. Energy-efficient appliances and a solar water heater are added bonuses.

"The multipurpose room in the basement is great for a baby play area, kids' study area/game room, home office, or for empty nesters as hobby room," Murasaki says.

"My son was raised in this house since birth, so it's safe for little ones," she adds. "It's also close to schools, shopping and a popular hiking trail leading to Shark's tooth nearby."
