Convenient condo in Makiki

The first thing that struck me about this newly listed two-bedroom condo in Mott-Smith Laniloa is its large lanai – 252 square feet of it. It runs along the length of the unit offering sweeping views of the city and Diamond Head from both bedrooms and the living room.

I’d probably consult an interior designer on how best to use the space while still spotlighting its long open design. It could be fun to create a couple of different nooks off each room.

Inside, there’s plenty of room with 924 square feet of living space. The unit, located on the 24^th floor, has new carpeting and a fresh coat of paint throughout. The kitchen and two bathrooms could use updates, but you could easily get away with something as simple as new cabinets to give it a refreshed look.

Built in 1976, the Mott-Smith Laniloa condominium in Makiki was designed by renowned Honolulu architect George Hogan. Known for his use of indoor-outdoor designs, it makes sense that the lanai would be fashioned as it is. Hogan is credited with designing notable buildings such as the Pan Am building on Kapiolani Boulevard and the Hamilton Library at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, along with many custom homes on Oahu.

Amenities include a recreation deck where you’ll find a swimming pool, a whirlpool, a tennis court and a barbecue area. If you’re into hiking, the trails up in Tantalus are just up the hill or if art is more your speed, the Honolulu Museum of Art’s Spalding House is a three-minute drive in the same direction.
