Cocktails and Wine Dinners at Du Vin

Three-course wine dinners are presented every Monday evening at Brasserie Du Vin. The menus by chef Scott Nelson and wine pairings by sommelier Tiana Kahakauwila are available for just $49 (plus tax and gratuity). Seating at 6:00 p.m. and is limited. Reservations are required.
This month’s menus:
On February 9th, start with a salad of avocados, prosciutto, frisée and crisped parsnips paired with Lechthaler Pinot Grigio 2007, Trentino, Italy. Then enjoy a charred tornadoes of filet mignon with baby arugula, cured tomatoes, Maytag blue cheese glaçage paired with St. Francis ‘Pagani’ Reserve Zinfandel 2004, Sonoma, California. Finish with a gratiné of wild berries, sponge cake and vanilla bean sabayone paired with Innocent Bystander ‘Pink’ Moscato 2007, Yarra Valley, Australia.
On February 16th, enjoy a special dinner with Jerry Brassfield, Owner of Brassfield Winery. Chef Scott Nelson will start the menu with “Angles on Horseback”: grilled Tiger shrimp and scallops wrapped with prosciutto and served with corn grits and tomato ragout; paired with Brassfield Estate “High Serenity Ranch Vineyard” Pinot Grigio. Then for the entree, marinated cedar plank roasted game hen with fingerling potato hash and mustard demi; paired with Brassfield Estate “High Serenity Ranch Vineyard” Pinot Noir 2006. For dessert, basil ice cream with pomegranate-lemon reduction served with crystallized basil and sweet vanilla tuille; paired with Brassfield Estate “Serenity” White 2006, (Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Gewürtztraminer, and Semillon blend).
On February 23rd, Du Vin will host its Lundi Gras “Unibroue” Beer Dinner to celebrate Mardi Gras early with a N’awlin’s-inspired menu, paired with Unibroue beer from Quebec. Start with a New Orleans barbequed Tiger shrimp (in beer, garlic, chilies and butter) served with garlic toast and paired with Unibroue “Maudite” Amber-Red Ale. Then for the entree, oysters baked on the half shell with bell pepper aioli, topped with gratin of gouda cheese and bread crumbs; paired with Unibroue “La Fin du Monde” Triple-Style Ale and Unibroue “Blanche de Chambly” White Ale. Finish with a Frog Stew New Orleans-style: Blue Crab, Rock Shrimp, Corn, Andouille Sausage, and Red Bliss Potatoes Stewed in Piquant Tomato Broth; paired with Unibroue “Trois Pistoles” Dark Ale.

Brasserie Du Vin will also host a Food and Drink of Carnival night on Saturday, February 21st to get an early start on Mardi Gras this year and enjoy the flavors of Carnival. Chef Scott Nelson, who hails from New Orleans, will prepare his favorite dishes, including Oysters Rockefeller, Red Beans and Rice with Andouille Sausage, and New Orleans Barbequed Shrimp. Oh, and the cocktails made especially for this night! Caprihnas, Rio de Coco, Batida de Carneval and more. As well as the music, dancers and beads!
Du Vin will also participate in the Mardi Gras Downtown Street Festival on Tuesday, February 24. One of Honolulu’s biggest street festivals, perfect for families and friends, features, food booths, arts and crafts, costumes and floats and live music. Du Vin will be open and will have a booth on the street where you can get a piece of traditional King Cake.
This month, Du Vin has introduced new signature cocktails. Here’s a sample of the offerings:
L’AMOUR – Like a Tilt-a-Whirl in a glass! You gotta be at least this tall to climb aboard this ride of mandarin and strawberry vodkas, apple schnapps and cranberry juice.
LA LUNE – A luscious and potent combination of light and dark rums and Grand Marnier, with pineapple and cranberry juices. The full-bodied rum and tropical fruit flavors could have you dancing on the tables before the night is over.
FRENCH KISS – Sensuous pleasures await as you sip on this alluring creation. Absolut Vanilia Vodka, Sence Rose liqueur, and Pama Pomegranite liqueur. Ooh la la!
RED VELVET – An elegant, and effervescent fruit explosion of wild berries that will blow your mind! Lindeman’s Belgian Framboise Ale, married with Castello Banfi Rosa Regale Brachetto.
Every Tuesday, Du Vin hosts a weekly wine tasting . It’s a casual and affordable way to learn about different wine makers and varietals. Themes change weekly. $20 includes tasting of 6-8 different wines and a cheese and fruit platter. The Half-off appetizer menu also available to wine tasting guests. Seating at 6:00 p.m. is limited and reservations are required.

Every Wednesday, enjoy Sessions @ Du Vin – A live weekly showcase of local jazz musicians. Performers change weekly. Music starts at 7:00 p.m. No cover. On February 11 and 25, James McCarthy will perform. James presents a range of covers and originals in his unique folk-rock way, with acoustic guitar and vocals. On February 18, enjoy the guitar stylings of Shoji Ledward. This popular and talented island musician presents a range of classic and contemporary jazz. He’s known to bring along and play several different guitars.
Don’t forget, Happy Hour at Brasserie Du Vin is Monday thru Saturday, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Order from a list of favorite dishes, including Pommes Frites, Baked Brie, Fish du Jour, Herbed-Garlic Escargot and Moules Frites and get half off.
