The carefully crafted cocktail is enjoying a well-deserved renaissance in Waikiki, as visitors and locals alike sip and savor authentic recipes inspired by Island lore.

The legendary Mai Tai Bar at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, has been perfecting the tropical drink since the 1950s. Trader Vic’s “Royal Mai Tai,” was created in 1953 and is still a favorite to this day. You’ll also find a refreshing line-up of “Classic Cocktails with a modern Twist” that are unique to The Royal Hawaiian. All are made with house-made syrups and locally-sourced produced. A few of the new concoctions the creative team at the Mai Tai Bar have created are:

Ali‘i Mai Tai, a Royal Hawaiian classic featuring a 21-year aged rum.

Chinatown Old Fashioned, an exotic blend of whiskey, 5-spice syrup, creole bitters and Thai basil.

Lava Lava, the skinny version of the lava flow served on the rocks with freshly muddled strawberries and mint.

The private cabanas and new food menu at the Mai Tai Bar also makes it a great place to gather with friends and out-of-town guests for a leisurely afternoon or watching the sunset along Waikiki Beach.  Executive Chef Colin Hazama presents a tempting menu of delectable appetizers, shared plates, handmade pizzas and more.
