Chef Jay Helps Kailua High

The Friends of Kailua High and Luana Hills Country Club have teamed up to create it’s first annual Kailua High School dinner and auction fundraiser.

On March 12th from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., many former Kailua High School students and other organizers have come put together a fun evening of food, drink and entertainment as a fundraiser to support their alma mater.

Among them are The Willow’s executive chef Jay Matsukawa, a class of 1994 graduate of Kailua High School, who developed the menu for the night.

The menu for the fundraiser includes Seared Diver Sea Scallop with AppleWood Smoked Bacon Beurre Blanc, Hoisin & Ginger Glazed Duck Breast with Shiitake Mushroom Slaw, Over Roasted Porkloin & Natural Jus, Soy/Sake Braised Beef Short Rib with Kabayaki Sauce, Antipasto Orzo Pasta Salad, BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad, Thai Shrimp & Noodle with Sweet Chili Vinaigrette and Tiramisu with Espresso Anglaise.

The emcee is the event is Crystal Akana of Island Radio 98.5FM. Crystal is a 2001 graduate of Kailua High. Entertainment is provided by Kumu Hauoli Akaka and Kumu Kukahoomalu Souza, also 2001 graduates.

All proceeds will benefit the "Principals Discretionary Fund". In the past money in the Discretionary Fund have been used for expenditures such as: Printing of Habits of Mind book marks; Security at student events, parent/community meetings; Hospitality (food, leis, floral bouquets; Recognition (faculty, staff, students and community members and organizations; Supplies; Bus transportation, Per diem for vice principals (for student trips to mainland and Japan).

Due to recent reductions in appropriated funds, it is anticipated that the discretionary fund will be used in part for purchase of computers for teachers and Student Service Coordinators; additional bus transportation costs for the Band and Hawaiian Ensemble performances; Student planners, grade 9-12; and Student portfolios for Freshman Jump Start.

The cost for tickets is $45.
