The Hawai‘i chapter of the nationwide movement can be found caroling around town this month as well as in a holiday concert at Hawai‘i Theatre.

Established in 2012, the city’s first openly gay musical organization regularly appears in concerts, parades and community events, even a sing-along to The Sound of Music. As part of a gay men’s chorus movement nationwide, artistic director Phil Hidalgo (pictured at left, above) says the group “spreads the word of diversity, unity, equality through music.” Who can belong? “Anybody who’s interested in singing in a tenor bass range,” he says, which includes straight members and women with a lower vocal range.
