Brighten Up Your Space with Matsumoto Studio’s Dreamy 2018 Calendar

Topping our list of resolutions for the new year: stop procrastinating, get more organized, cute up our boring old workspaces with tropi-cool touches—all a snap now that we’ve got our hands on Matsumoto Studio’s new 2018 Hawai‘i calendar.

The stationery label is the brainchild of Maui-based sisters Jes and Jen Matsumoto, artists known for their whimsical, often punny, aloha-spirited imagery. Think notecards featuring ramen illustrations saying “Ramen’t To Be” and postcards topped with smiling musubi. “We use art and design as a creative outlet and connection back to the place we adore so much, Hawai‘i,” says Jes.

For this year’s calendar, the duo pays homage to various Island flora with anthuriums, birds of paradise, torch ginger and more decked out in vibrant tropical hues—the sisters always give April a rich violet color in honor of their mom’s birth month. Each design is hand-sketched, painted with watercolors and digitized, then printed on recycled cardstock on Maui.

In a genius move, the Matsumotos took the ecofriendly angle even further, designing the calendar so that the artwork could be cut out and salvaged as notecards. “We didn’t want the designs to just be thrown away once the month was over,” says Jes. Each calendar can be purchased with a set of coordinating envelopes.
