Brews Worthy

Your Drinking Buddy: Hey girl, you’re crying into your beer. What’s all the brew-ha-ha about?
You: I can't grin and beer it anymore. I’m trying to go green, but I don’t want to give up my beloved brews. I still want to get my buzz on, but I need a more natural selection.
DB: I’ve got a cure for what ales you. Kona Brewing Company has just released Oceanic Organic Saison, Hawai‘i’s first certified organic beer. The organic malt, hops, and coriander are made with special farming practices that are better for the planet.
You: Well, that quenches my thirst for an eco-friendly option, but how does it taste?
DB: It’s a Belgian-style ale with a crisp, dry flavor and spicy aroma, with notes of lemon peel, clove, and white pepper coriander. You know and love their other local beers, like Longboard Island Lager, Big Wave Golden Ale, and Fire Rock Pale Ale, so you get the pitcher.
You: Sounds delish – when can I get it?
DB: It debuts at a special tapping tomorrow night at 5 p.m., in the Hawai‘i Kai and Kona locations. Come raise a glass to environmentally-friendly practices, and support Kona Brewing Company’s local beers. Plus, you can drink easy knowing both of their pubs have been named Certified Green Restaurants by the Green Restaurant Association.
You: Wow, they really know how to raise the bar.
DB: And their glass is always greener.
Oceanic Organic Saison goes on tap Thursday night at 5 p.m. at Kona Brewing Company’s two pubs, in Hawai‘i Kai’s Koko Marina location and in the Kailua-Kona pub and brewery. Bottling begins this spring. For more info, visit www.konabrewingco.com.
