Brew on This

Lei Chic The drive-thru. In your opinion, one of the world's best inventions.

You tell someone what you want, then sit comfortably while he or she scrambles to fill your request in a matter of minutes. You feel like royalty.

Or, just incredibly lazy. Either way, it's pretty darn awesome. Which means you're going to love this…

Introducing Brew Threw, a drive-thru coffee shop now open in Kailua.

Here's what you do. Drive along Hamakua St. until you hit Bob's Sports Bar and the impossible-to-miss Brew Threw signs; one is perched on the bed of a pick-up truck, the other is tied to a fence fronting the sidewalk. Pull up to the custom shed-slash-trailer parked in the lot and put in your order with Kailua sisters Suzanne Pregitzer and Cassandra Guard. Then drive around to the other pass-through window, pick up your drink and go.

Lei Chic McDonald's, this is not. Instead, you'll throw down strong, smooth espresso drinks brewed from illy beans, enhanced with Monin and Torani syrups and steamed milk (Pregitzer learned how to make coffee drinks while working at an organic health food store in Santa Barbara). Then grab a croissant or muffin for a quick, on-the-go breakfast. Just make sure you get there by 9:45 a.m. – they clear out before the sports bar opens at 10.

Brew Threw can also serve up drinks at weekend events, say, if you need to caffeinate clients or party guests or if you're craving your own private barista.

Just don't expect them to curtsey.

Brew Threw, Mondays-Fridays, 5:45-9:45 a.m., 170 Hamakua St. For drink specials and other offers, visit Brew Threw on Facebook.
