Few do summer better than Amber Fillerup Clark (@amberfillerup), the stylish Islander behind the uber-popular lifestyle blog Barefoot Blonde, whose breezy outfits, mom-geared fitness tips and fun hair tutorials inspire us on the daily. The Arizona native moved to O‘ahu at the tail end of 2016, sharing her family’s sun-soaked adventures and wardrobe transition from city-cool to tropical-chic along the way. Here, she gives us the scoop on her latest summer favorites, from local swimwear and acai bowls to a grownup twist on pigtails.

FILLERUP CLARK ROCKS ONE OF HER KAREN WALKER SHADES.
Local swimwear: Issa de’ Mar. The founders are such sweet girls who work really hard and their swimsuits fit so well.
Breezy beachwear: I love Rococo Sands.
Accessory trend: Basket bags
Sunnies: I’m convinced that Karen Walker sunglasses look good on anyone and they go with almost all my looks. They’re also really well-made.

Beach: Keiki Beach
Cool treat: Banzai Bowl’s Friends of Sunset Beach bowl with peanut butter and raspberries
Family activity: Swimming in the pool or boating. On Memorial Day, we invited some friends to come out boating with us, which turned out to be one of our favorite things we have done in Hawai‘i so far.
Al fresco restaurant: I love Arvo—I always get the loaded avocado toast and fresh OJ.
Getaway: Andaz in Maui is incredible.

FILLERUP CLARK'S GO-TO SUMMER 'DO.
Beauty buy: I’m insanely diligent with my sunscreen. I love to use Colorscience Powder Sunscreen, which is my favorite because I hate having an oily face. And I love MAC’s Cream Colour Base blush in Vintage Rose because you can use it on your cheeks and lips, and it’s water-resistant.
Hair product: Leave-in conditioner. If you’re going swimming in a chlorine pool, it’s best to get your hair wet before going in and apply conditioner. Your hair is like a sponge so if you go straight into pool water it will suck it all up, but if you put pure water plus conditioner on beforehand, it will get much less chlorine in your hair.
Warm-weather hairstyle: Dutch pigtails. It’s a quick way to have a cute hairstyle at the beach—it keeps the hair out of your face and keeps it from tangling when it’s windy or if you go swimming. I love to incorporate a few wefts of my Barefoot Blonde Hair Extensions to thicken and lengthen the braids. And, once you take the braids out, your hair will have a natural beachy wave.
