Best Kids’ Party

Pony rides for all sizes can be just the start of the party package at Gunstock Ranch, a working ranch in Lā‘ie. Kids can swim in a heated pool (opt for the glow stick and balloon package after dark); snuggle up to lambs, bunnies and a miniature pony in the petting zoo; climb around a playground; roast s’mores at the camp fire; or just enjoy free fun on the property, including chasing chickens and spinning on the tire swing. Plus, you can bring your own food at no extra charge.

Best Family Pau Hana

Chasing your kids (and dealing with scornful hipsters) at a downtown bar isn’t the best way to unwind. Thank goodness for Uncle Wayne’s Family Pau Hana at Mission Social Hall and Café. Chef Mark Noguchi and wife, Amanda Corby, are parents of two little girls, so they created this party on the lawn every third Wednesday of the month. Kids can run around while you grab a glass of wine or ‘ōlena lemonade and one of Noguchi’s famous burgers or other family-friendly fare. Childrens’ band Uncle Wayne and the Howling Dogs Band perform live, so, if your kid has a tantrum, no one will hear it. Even if they do, at least you’ll have a drink.

Best Sushi for Kids

Whoosh: Ordering sushi is fun when it arrives at your table on a train.

At Genki Sushi, select dishes on a tablet and watch as a race car speedily delivers fresh sashimi, sushi, karaage chicken and other favorites right to your table. The popular bullet express system made its debut at Ala Moana Center, and can now be found in Pearlridge, Waikele and Windward City. Expect the rails to race into all Genki locations in the future.
