[Best of 2015] Matsumoto Studio Cards, Calendars and Printables

“Eat Your Heart Out” is the theme of these little cuties.

We're reminiscing about some of our favorite stories from 2015! Take this feature from February of super-cute Valentine's Day cards from stationery brand Matsumoto Studio. Even when it's not the season of love, we're totally infatuated with the brand's adorable designs: Check out the pretty, graphic calendar that made it into our Christmas gift guide and fun pineapple luggage tags that we popped into our HONOLULU Fashion Week VIP bags.

"Roses are red, violets are blue—"

Hold the groan. We are so over these sappy Valentine’s Day clichés and faux pas. Candy hearts taste like chalk, cardboard cutout cards are so elementary school, and Hallmark? Talk about generic. You need a new way to say those three little words, STAT.

Go ahead and tell these sweet new printables from Matsumoto Studio to “Be Mine.” We are way in love with the cute creations from designers Jen and Jes Matsumoto. Born and raised on Maui, these now “tri-coastal” sisters (Jen lives on the East Coast and Jes on the West Coast) have always known that art was the way to the their hearts. After studying visual communications in college, they launched Matsumoto Studio in 2012 and have created an array of sweet cards, gift tags, calendars and invitations inspired by Japanese-style art and local culture. Some of our favorites come from the annie + flo line of notecards, inspired by and named after the Matsumotos' mother and grandmother, which sport brightly colored sand dollars, stylized surfboards and rolling waves.

And if you like those, you’ll be totally crushing on the Valentine’s Day collection, which is themed “Eat Your Heart Out.” What better way to send your sweetheart some aloha than with iconic Island staples that are as kawaii as can be: coconut cuties, endearing little maki, jolly Spam musubi and cheery shave ice cones? After all, “Crazy 4 U” certainly gets the job done, but “I like the way you roll” and “You are the Spam to my musubi” are so much tastier. And did we mention that these printables are totally free? Just go to the Matsumoto Studio blog, print and customize them for your special someone.

Now that’s what we call sweet talk.
