Best Doctors in Hawaii 2014

Our annual “Best Doctors” list is researched by Best Doctors Inc., which surveys physicians nationwide, asking, “If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, to whom would you refer them?” From that survey, we share the Hawaii doctors with our readers.

The process is more extensive than that, and you can read about it in detail at the Best Doctors website, bestdoctors.com. The list is impartial, and no doctor may buy his or her way onto the list—two reasons we’ve trusted it as a source.

The Best Doctors in America® list totals more than 45,000 physicians and specialists—the top 5 percent of all the nation’s doctors, so the 419 Hawaii doctors listed here are the best of the best. However, that doesn’t mean you should worry if you don’t see your current doctor here. The Best Doctors in America® methodology favors specialists and doctors at larger, urban hospitals, who are more likely to have a higher profile than their peers at smaller, rural facilities. If you’re happy with your current doctor and don’t see her or him on the list, even Best Doctors® would assure you that there’s no need to switch.

Founded in 1989 by Harvard Medical School professors, Best Doctors Inc. is transforming and improving health care. The global company, headquartered in Boston, serves more than 30 million members in every major region of the world. The company works with the best five percent of doctors to find the right diagnoses and right treatments, and seamlessly integrates its services with employers’ other health-related benefits.

More than a traditional second opinion, Best Doctors delivers a comprehensive evaluation of a patient’s medical condition—providing value to both patients and treating physicians. By utilizing Best Doctors, members have access to the brightest minds in medicine to ensure the right diagnosis and treatment plan.

Best Doctors’ team of researchers conducts a biennial poll using the methodology that mimics the informal peer-to-peer process doctors themselves use to identify the right specialists for their patients. Using a polling method and balloting software, that Gallup® has audited and certified, they gather the insight and experience of tens of thousands of leading specialists all over the country, while confirming their credentials and specific areas of expertise.

The result is the Best Doctors in America® List, which includes the nation’s most respected specialists and outstanding primary care physicians in the nation. These are the doctors that other doctors recognize as the best in their fields. They cannot pay a fee and are not paid to be listed and cannot nominate or vote for themselves. It is a list which is truly unbiased and respected by the medical profession and patients alike as the source of top quality medical information.
