Before & After: How This Woodlawn Home Went From Simple to Stunning

Four months ago, 3347A ‘Ano‘ai Place looked like many older O‘ahu homes—worn, dated and with endless deferred maintenance. But it sat on a gorgeous lot in Mānoa’s Woodlawn neighborhood, with more than an acre of land and stunning valley, city and ocean views. Indar Lange of Our Home Investments saw its potential. Now, four months after purchasing it for $800,000, it’s completely renovated and back on the market.

The home, designed by Charles Sutton, who also designed Aloha Tower and the state Capitol, needed everything. The previous owner, an elderly woman, wasn’t able to keep up with the three-bedroom, two-bath home’s maintenance needs. Lange, who has extensive experience buying and restoring O‘ahu houses, knew it would be a huge challenge, but he loved the home, the view and the yard. This wasn’t a simple cosmetic makeover—Lange started by replacing support beams and rotted decks and siding. To make the most of the home’s views, Lange replaced walls with windows wherever possible and used glass railings.

“One of the biggest challenges was the yard. It’s more than an acre, and I wanted to open it up and create an area for kids to play and families to enjoy,” Lange says. Now terraced and beautifully landscaped, the yard is indeed the perfect place for a family.

It feels brand new now, yet it’s the lowest priced home in the neighborhood. Its new owner will enjoy high-end finishes throughout, views from every room and even a fireplace for those cool Mānoa evenings. The open floor plan and large lānai make it a great home for entertaining.
