Balinese-inspired estate

The original owners of this Balinese-inspired estate atop Hawaii Loa Ridge took years to build it. It was completed in 2004, but it was worth the wait. Like most homes here, it is luxurious and dramatic, but it has some features that you won’t find under one roof on this island.

There are southeast Asian touches throughout the house, but downstairs in the pool house/lounge area, the entire space is filled with pieces from Bali, making you feel like you’re in a different country. That pool area is another conversation piece: half the area has a private, unobstructed ocean view, while the other half is strategically landscaped to enable nude sunbathing. (The original owners were Brazilian.) Even if you’re not inclined to tan au natural, this element does give a sense of openness coupled with privacy.
Another unique feature is its 2,000-bottle wine cellar, hidden behind a trap door of bookshelves in the den area. If you don’t drink, you could use it as storage for other items, as the current owners do.

There are maid’s quarters tucked away down a long hallway -close enough to be convenient, yet far enough to give everyone privacy. Actually, all residents could stick to their own private corners, as there are seven bedrooms (three of which are master suites) in this 6,643-square-foot home on more than 27,000 square feet of land. The home’s layout is visually very open and expansive, designed to take your line of vision straight out to the stunning ocean view.
Other features include a gourmet kitchen, spa, massage room and a three-car garage.
