Lei Chic9:00 a.m. – Arrive at office toting coffee from usual place staffed by amazingly perky barista
9:03 a.m. – Return to search for your actual order, which amazingly perky barista mixed up

Strike up the bland.

You need a sweet escape from this day. So do yourself a flavor with a visit to the new Let Them Eat Cupcakes café.

Just opened in the old Mix Café on Beretania Street, the bake shop is the sweet dream of former Honolulu Advertiser employees Kawehi Haug and Nick Gervais. Instead of feeling the heat when they lost their jobs last year, Haug decided to turn her part-time Babycakes cupcake bakery into a new full-time passion.

The duo developed a rotating menu of about 30 tempting flavors, each with a local twist. Go tropical with the guava, li hing mango, haupia, and lilikoi all made with real fruit and without artificial ingredients. Develop a schoolgirl sugar rush on their peanut butter-and-jelly featuring a light peanut butter cake and a not-too-sweet grape jelly buttercream frosting. Or get decadent with chocolate mint or a red velvet cake with an unexpected cream cheese swirl.

So you’ll have a reason to flee office drudgery.

It’s the perfect icing on your break.

Let them Eat Cupcakes is located at 35 S. Beretania St.,  just off the corner of Beretania and Pauahi streets. It is open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mon. – Fri. and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sat.  Call 808.531.CAKE for more information.
