Aulani Celebrates Anniversary with Kamaaina Discounts
The Disney resort marks five years in Hawaii with special rates and new characters.
Five years ago, Disney opened its first property in Hawaii. Since then, Aulani has become the “go-to” place for family staycations and a consistent “Best of HONOLULU Family” winner. This year, the Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa is celebrating its fifth anniversary by offering kamaaina and U.S. military one of its best discounts – 35 percent off room rates. It’s a substantial savings on rooms that can start at $489 a night during the standard season. But, there are a few things you need to know before booking.
The savings is only for weeknight stays, that is Sunday through Thursday, and does not include suites or three-bedroom Grand Villas. There are a few blackout periods including Hawaii public schools’ fall break, which is scheduled for October 10 through 14, and around the week of Thanksgiving. But the discount is good for stays through December 19.
For the celebration, Aulani also unveiled a few new features and characters for guests.
– Ka Waa Luau – The Canoe Luau – will be the resort’s first luau, telling the story of the ancient Hawaiians journey to the Ewa Plains through traditional music, hula and storytelling. The details have not yet been announced, but you can expect family activities and some traditional Hawaiian food. Unfortunately, the luau will replace the current free Starlit Hui show. The luau will only be available to hotel guests when it first opens this November. But that is expected to change next year.
– Moana – the young seafaring navigator and star of the upcoming movie of the same name – will be joining the cast of characters at the resort. Expect her debut at the Aulani when the movie hits theaters this Thanksgiving. She will be a “face” character who can talk to and interact with guests like Aunty and Uncle who tell stories about ancient Hawaii.
– Daisy Duck, Pluto and Shelly Mae are joining the cast of Disney favorites that greet, dance and stop for photo ops around Aulani. Guests should start seeing them appearing immediately.
