Armed Forces Day discounts in Hawaii for May

Armed Forces Day, first commemorated in 1950, is a day to pay tribute to those who serve, and have served, our country. Hawaii recently extended the day to cover the entire month, officially declaring the month of May to be Hawaii Military Appreciation Month. Following is a roundup of some of the best discounts to be had for members of the military this month. Most are for the entire month, while others are only for one day.

 

Honolulu Zoo

Free day on May 19

All military ID cardholders, including retirees and National Guardsmen, gain free entry to the Honolulu Zoo on May 19  from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. One cardholder can bring the whole family, and there will be free shuttles from each base. 151 Kapahulu Ave., 971-7171, honoluluzoo.org.

 

National Park

Annual pass, free, May 19

Service members and dependents can obtain a free National Park annual pass at any Federal recreation site by showing a Common Access Card (CAC) or military ID.  nps.gov.

 

Sea Life Park

Major discounts until May 15

Germaine’s Luau

Half price tickets, month of May

Polynesian Cultural Center

Month of May

For a North Shore luau and show, nothing beats the Polynesian Cultural Center and Ha–Breath of Life. Get in at kids’s price, month of May
