Allison in Denimland

Lots of good things come in tiny packages – like the small-size robin’s egg blue gift box, which is always better than the big one.

And then there’s Honolulu designer Allison Izu Song.

Standing just 5-foot-2, this petite fashion force has created a denim line geared specifically toward women 5-foot-4 and shorter. After pushing past initial manufacturing problems, Song’s long-awaited and newly-tweaked fall line is finally in stores this week.

Five essential styles make up the AllisonIzu line: the kolohe skinny jean, the paniolo basic boot-cut, the luana higher-waisted wide leg pant, the Honolulu dressy trouser jean, and the peni or sexy pencil skirt. Each piece is available in sizes 00 to 10, and is constructed from dark indigo premium Cone Mill denim with spandex stretch for softness and comfort, but has no fading or shading to keep a structured, dressier look.

She’s also changed the jean pattern, creating 27-inch and 31-inch inseams and adding clever details to better fit shorter women, such as lifting the knee break and repositioning to the pockets to give the illusion of a longer leg and a toned butt.

In the spring Song will launch new styles and washes, but the collection will always remain true petite in fit and cut.

Because size does matter.

AllisonIzu Denim is available this week online and at The Butik and Split Obsession. Attend the denim line’s launch party this Thursday Nov. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pearl Ultralounge, Ala Moana Center.
