AIKAN's Modern, Slim-Fit Aloha Shirts
Aloha Friday is about to get a lot more fun.

If you ask us aloha-shirt-lovers, the festive closet staple has always been cool. Johnny Depp proved it as Hunter Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Nicolas Cage proved it in Raising Arizona. Tom Cruise definitely proved it in Cocktail. Totally quirky? Oh, yeah. But, definitely cool.
Plus, now that aloha shirts are enjoying a contemporary revival for the wider audience, the reasons to fall in love are even greater. Less quirk and more class? There's an aloha shirt for you. Not so into breezy, but a tailored fit more your bag? There's an aloha shirt for you. With so many options, it's hard to choose just one.
And now it's even harder, thanks to last month's launch of aloha shirt line AIKAN, developed by local girl Aisha Price after she moved back to the Islands last year. Managing consultant by day, this Harvard and Punahou grad is putting her creative and entrepreneurial powers to the test with the new biz, which she pieced together herself, from sourcing manufacturers in Asia to commissioning a website to saving up for start-up capital. Tapping into her school pal's cache of tropical photos, Price repurposes images of Island icons into Hawai'i-inspired patterns for the shirts. Selecting a modern, slim fit designed to appeal to a young, fashion-savvy audience, Price hopes her shirts will spread her love of the Islands' elements—physical, cultural and spiritual—to splashy-shirt-enthusiasts far and wide.
The inaugural lineup of five shirt styles includes tumbling waves, frond silhouettes superimposed over plumerias, pineapple-shaped cutouts of sunset photos and cheeky tikis splashed across sun-dappled sea beds. The shirts, which are all 100-percent cotton, are already flying off the digital shelves. Price sold 100 in less than a month and she's already gearing up for some new designs and a new run.
The long and shirt of it? Get your hands on one of these. We have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot more of Aikan and Price, very soon.
