Saturday, May 3, will surely be a night to remember at Capitol Modern as we host the Mod Gala, a one-night-only extravaganza themed “Botanical Rhapsody: A Floral Odyssey.” This event will feature glamorous fashion shows, gourmet chefs and exciting live art-making. Guests are encouraged to dress to impress and go wild with the floral theme.
The Mod Gala will help raise funds for the nonprofit Friends of Capitol Modern, a network of highly skilled volunteers who support the museum and its vision. “We are going to blow the roof off!” says its President Jonathan Johnson. “There is a huge need to support the free public institution. I am a supporter of public education, and the peoples’ museum is very close to that. While they say it is always free, I say it is priceless!”
Expect to see stunning new floral-inspired looks from fashion designers Amos Kotomori, Kini Zamora, Rumi Murakami, Crystal Lee, Mapis Bernal, Samson Lee, Ryan and Nathaniel Whittaker and Christopher Ching. Enjoy unique and delicious bites from celebrated Indigenous chefs Kealoha Domingo, Crystal Wahpehpah and Stephanie Pyetwetmokwe DeSpain. ‘Ukulele virtuoso Taimane Gardner, singer and songwriter Izik and musical duo T.J. Keanu Tario and Jonny Lam will also give electrifying performances.
The café space will be converted into an artists’ studio where you can watch masterpieces be created throughout the evening. Invited established artists include Sally French, Solomon Enos, Carl Pao, Sam Schriver, Carol Bennet and Cade Roster. Artwork will also be for sale, with 50% of the proceeds going to support the Friends of Capitol Modern.
