Live Theater Shows for Families This Fall on O‘ahu
Get your tickets to these kid-friendly stage shows before they sell out.
With playful productions scheduled across the island, we’ve rounded up five opportunities for you to take your keiki to the theater. Based on favorite storybooks and on-screen hilarity, these plot lines are spot-on for laughs and giggles, and even some singing! Plus, no need to worry about your child’s theater manners when the auditorium (and the stage) will be filled with little ones like them, too!

Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach
Sept. 30 to Oct. 8
Based on the beloved children’s novel, this musical packs a peculiar storyline of a boy who finds himself inside a giant peach pit with a crew of talking insects. Expect delicious rhymes and whimsical music, performed by students and adults from around O‘ahu and produced by Mo‘olelo Studios in partnership with Sacred Hearts Academy. Plus, the theater will smell like peach! Recommended for audiences ages 4 and up.

The Royal School
Oct. 7
There’s only one more performance left of this brand-new show by Lee Cataluna and Moses Goods, where you can learn about the short-lived school for children of Hawaiian ali‘i set in the 1840s. Part musical, part history lesson, Honolulu Theatre for Youth keeps keiki engaged and entertained with original music, mele, a rap and dance. Recommended for audiences in grade 3 and up.

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Jr.
Oct. 14 & 15
Just in time for the candy-crazed season, Hawai‘i Theatre Center and the Pacific Academy of Performing Arts present this classic story of an eccentric man’s quest to give five lucky kids a tour of his top secret chocolate factory. Get your golden ticket for this performance featuring keiki from across the island and relive your own childhood nostalgia of everlasting gobstoppers and fizzy-lifting drinks. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

Under the Blue
Oct. 29, Nov. 4 & 11
Filled with puppets, music and a lot of imagination, this Honolulu Theatre for Youth play is perfect for little ones. Follow a fallen bottle cap through the five layers of the ocean to encounter sea creatures and sustainability stories. The two-member cast keep the storyline simple, yet magical with a mash-up of science and the arts. Recommended for preschool and kindergarten audiences.

Nickelodeon’s The SpongeBob Musical Youth Edition
Nov. 10 to 26
You know him, your kids love him, and now SpongeBob SquarePants and his Bikini Bottom friends are coming to the stage at Kapolei High School. This one-hour adaptation of the beloved animated series features singing, dancing and an underwater adventure, all performed by students. Recommended for audiences ages 4 and up.
