The American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society’s main Hawai‘i representative, he is a leading expert in disorders and conditions of the foot and ankle—including traumatic injuries, Achilles tendon disorders, bunions, athletic injuries, tendon disorders, arthritis and flatfoot deformities—as well as minimally invasive surgeries for bunions and Achilles tendon rupture repair, total ankle replacement surgeries, and fracture repair surgeries around the foot and ankle.
An ‘Aiea boy and Kamehameha Schools graduate, Dr. Kikuchi received his medical degree from the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine and completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at the University of Southern California Los Angeles County Medical Center, regarded as one of the most rigorous orthopedic programs in the US.
In 2015, he moved to Baltimore for fellowship training in orthopedic foot and ankle surgery at the Institute for Foot andAnkle Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center, one of the nation’s elite foot and ankle training programs, where he trained on innovative and comprehensive foot and ankle surgical care ranging from foot and ankle arthroscopic surgery to total ankle replacement surgery. He returned to the Islands and joined Orthopedic Associates of Hawai‘i in 2016.
Dr. Kikuchi has helped advance implant technology by innovating numerous new orthopedic implants and surgical instrumentation systems. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals; he also peer reviews for Foot & Ankle International and Foot and Ankle Orthopedics, two of the nation’s leading orthopedic surgery foot and ankle research journals. He is currently an assistant clinical professor with JABSOM, where he teaches orthopedic reconstructive foot and ankle surgery to residents.
