Dr. Murariu, along with his partner, Dr. Robert Peterson, runs Athena Clinic, a boutique-style practice that offers more than 40 years of combined world-class expertise in plastic surgery. Athena Clinic provides a comprehensive range of aesthetic services, from medical grade skin care to noninvasive treatments for skin tightening and fat reduction, as well as in-office plastic surgery procedures.

Dr. Murariu specializes in aesthetic surgery, with a special expertise in breast aesthetics and high-definition liposculpting, as well as head-to-toe reconstructive surgery, which can help restore both function and aesthetics after trauma or oncologic resections.

One of Dr. Murariu’s unique strengths is his expertise in performing robotic-assisted reconstructions, a technique only a handful of plastic surgeons in the nation offer. Robotic-assisted reconstructions have the benefit of smaller incisions, less pain and faster recovery times. During his time as the Director of Microsurgery and Lymphatic Surgery in Pittsburgh, he likely performed the most robotic reconstructions in the US for breast, pelvic, and head and neck. He also helped co-found the first robotic task force for his main society and has published his techniques and outcomes to inspire more plastic surgeons to offer it to their patients. He shares his research and techniques internationally at plastic surgery conferences and, last year, gave more than 50 talks at the local, national and international level.

In the next year, Dr. Murariu aims to expand Athena Clinic and offer medispa services at a separate location to complement its surgical practice. His partner, Dr. Peterson, is also building a new clinic in Hainan, China, making Athena Clinic an international presence with surgeons based in multiple locations. Dr. Murariu’s motivation to be the best doctor he can be comes from his commitment to charitable activities, as demonstrated by his involvement in Rotary Club and recognition for his local and international charitable efforts.

Dr. Murariu attributes his success to perseverance, hard work and always putting his patients’ best interests first. He spent nine years after medical school, furthering his training in plastic surgery to deliver the best care possible to the people of Hawai‘i.
