Nominate Great Volunteers: HONOLULU Magazine’s Ola Pono Awards

HONOLULU Magazine is looking to honor volunteers of any age.

Do you know someone who consistently finds way to give back to his or her community? It may be a child who does everything from donation drives at school to helping kupuna in the neighborhood. It may be a parent who juggles volunteering with soccer practices, homework and work. It may be a grandparent or school volunteer who helps various groups across the island. We want to hear about them.

HONOLULU Magazine has started the Ola Pono Awards to honor outstanding people who give their time and talents to make our islands a better place. All you need to do to nominate someone is to fill out our simple form telling us what they do and how they affect their community. Nominations are due by Aug. 31 and will be considered by a panel including community members from aio media, HONOLULU Magazine and the community. Notifications will be made by the end of September and honorees will be highlighted in HONOLULU’s January issue. Here is what you need to know: 

ELIGIBILITY

A community member of any age living in Hawai‘i.

CRITERIA

Persons being nominated for this award will have consistently demonstrated qualities of compassion and service to either one organization or a variety of volunteer activities. The activities/events or service listed on the application cannot be part of the nominee’s job description or duties and the individual cannot receive any monetary or personal benefits from his or her involvement.

JUDGING CRITERIA
  • The degree to which their services/actions have made a lasting or meaningful contribution or impact on their community – 40%
  • The length and degree of their service(s) – 20%
  • The extent to which their service or action might be considered above and beyond the call of duty – 20%
  • The extent to which their action would be recognized and valued by their peers/community leaders – 20%
