Who says sloths are slow movers?

The Honolulu Zoo welcomed a new baby. Harriet, a Linneaus two-toed sloth, gave birth to another little one this afternoon.

Harriet and father Quando have had a child every year since 2015: Opihi that year, Akala in 2016, Tommy in 2017. That is not common. The zoo says that sloths do not easily breed in zoos.

The zoo has set up a live camera on the sloths. Don’t expect too much action. Sloths sleep up to 18 hours a day.

The new baby, whose gender has not yet been determined, will stay with its mom for nine months to a year.
