Do your children love gardening? Do they ever ask how certain fruits and veggies end up on their dinner plates? Consider signing them up for Seeds4Tomorrow, a hands-on program for students, grades five through eight, interested in farming, conservation, culinary arts and agriculture.
Seeds4Tomorrow’s 2018 summer day camp is scheduled for Monday to Saturday, July 23 through 28, in the Hawai’i Agriculture Research Center in Waipahu. The registration deadline is Monday, July 9. Early sign-up is recommended due to limited space.
Campers receive hands-on training by industry leaders in agriculture, engineering and culinary arts. On the final day of the program, campers present their agri-business ideas to farmers, friends and family.
“Seeds 4 Tomorrow helps kids gain a new appreciation for goods, while developing a deeper connection to both the ‘āina and each other,” says Emma Smith, education coordinator and research assistant for the Hawai’i Agriculture Research Center. “This allows Hawai’i’s keiki to connect the land to the food and materials we use in our daily lives.”

Day 2: Learn propagation techniques and how plant genetics affect flavor and yield.
