Keiki Craft

Halloween Trading Cards

Supplies:

• 1 package of trading cards(different types to choose from)• Color markers• PencilOptional items: Embellishments (stickers, stamps, acrylic paint, watercolor paint)

Directions:

1. Have your keiki draw on one side of the trading card with the markers. He or she can also paint on the card, but be sure to get the correct type of trading card for the medium used.

2. The theme for this project is Halloween, but it can be used just for about anything or anytime of the year: Christmas presents/card, Easter cards, birthdays or just for fun.

3. Encourage your keiki to sign and date his or her artistic craft project in the bottom corner, as all artists sign their work. It makes it more valuable.

4. At this point, the decorated card may be used in goodie bags for school or incorporated into a scrapbook for Halloween.

5. Optional: Have your keiki create “coupons” with the trading cards (example: doing a sibling’s chores, washing the dishes, taking out trash, etc.). This is a great idea for parents teaching their children about goals, or even for teachers who can use the coupons to reward students. Keiki can also give away the coupons to other family members.

6. As a parent, you can have your children draw pictures on the cards while you create the coupons. When they do something good, this can be their “treat” or reward. Place these cards in a jar and they can pick a coupon at random. To allow for changing of the treat, you may want to use a sticky note on the backside.
