Michel’s at the Colony Surf has been inspiring romance since 1962. For visitors and locals alike, the romantic spot is the perfect place to celebrate whether for a honeymoon, major anniversary or any accomplishment. With waves breaking, a scatter of canoes tugging at their mooring and a wedge of sand with a handful of bathing figures, naming Michel’s the Hale ‘Aina winner of Most Romantic Restaurant almost seems a foregone conclusion.

At the foot of Diamond Head just outside of Waikīkī Michel’s offers an ocean front view of a majestic sunset and the Honolulu City lights as you dine on delectable French haute cuisine with island flair. Start your romantic dining experience with Michel’s lobster bisque, fresh Maine lobster meat flamed in Cognac, indulge in beef tenderloin au poivre flamed in Jack Daniels with a black peppercorn crust and finish the fine dining experience with Hawaiian apple-banana flambé, made of locally grown bananas flambéed in dark rum over vanilla ice cream.

Live music by two-time Grammy-winning guitarist Jeff Peterson plays in the background as your meal is finished, carved and plated right at your table — a vision of operatic opulence for Eberhard Kintscher, better known as Chef Hardy, and general manager Phillip Shaw. Michel’s success stems from the partners extensive background, Hardy starting with an apprenticeship in Baden, Germany while Shaw managed Roy Yamaguchi’s first Hawai‘i Kai location.
