Over the years, jewelry genius Bliss Lau has found a seemingly permanent spot on our ones-to-watch list. Just when we think we’ve hit our wow limit, the Hawai‘i-raised, New York designer dazzles us with a fresh release.
Case in point: her latest project, the Ceremony Collection, a stunning assortment of fine jewelry made with both the unconventional bride and the accessories fan in mind. Forged in solid 18K gold, the ring collection features sparkling hand-set pave diamonds and an assortment of richly hued gemstones including Malaya garnet, green sapphire and rare blue tourmaline. Lau dreamed up the collection as a reinterpretation of the classic solitaire, this time with her elegant-meets-edgy aesthetic. And, true to Bliss Lau form, many of the ring sets feature multiple components that can be broken apart into individual statement pieces, equally show-stopping on their own.
Elliptical Centered Bliss Ring:

The celestial-cut center stone serves as an engagement ring, while the exterior pieces are worn as the wedding band. 18K gold, diamond, sapphire.
Minimalist Ring:

Created as an homage to minimalist sculptor Richard Serra. From one side, you see a slice of gold, from another, a spray of diamonds. 18K yellow gold, diamond, green sapphire.
Visible Crescent Ring Set:

The twin half-moon smoky quartz stones represent the phases of the moon. 18K rose gold, diamond and iolite.
Spectrum Ring Set:

Splits into one main solitaire and three open rings. 18K white gold, diamonds, blue tourmaline, Viking Compass iolite.

Bliss Lau on the Pitch Panel
Creating the Ceremony Collection was a goal spurred by Lau’s participation in the HONOLULU Fashion Week 2015 Pitch Panel, a competition in which top Hawai‘i designers pitched their brands to a distinguished panel of business and fashion leaders. Lau was one of three finalists who took home advertising packages, plus strategic sessions with industry experts.
One year later, we asked her to share a few of her big takeaways:
“Design smarter, meaning, take everything that is the core of your brand and merchandise around it to create your collection.”
“Understand the importance of working with specialized people. Having a specialist help you with aspects of your business that you would otherwise have to absorb by yourself is invaluable.”
“Figure out what having an investor means, and decide if you really want that. I decided I don’t want an investor. I don’t want a big staff. I believe in being an entrepreneur on every level.”
