Each year, this festival shares Hawaiian traditions, values and practices through games and demonstrations. Want to come prepared? Here are some tips on how to perfect your ulu maika game:

• Visualize the rock rolling between the stakes.
• Bend your knees and keep your body parallel to the intended path of your rock.
•  Cradle the rock between your pinky and thumb—don’t just toss it.
•  Let go in a fluid motion. Follow through by extending your arm.
•  Pray to Lono.
