This Week’s Nightlife Buzz

There have been many changes recently in the nightlife industry.  Owners have changed, renovations are almost completed and new clubs are opening this fall.

The first surprise is that Pipeline Café is closing as a mainstream club venue on September 5th.  It has switched owners and will remain open for concerts, parties and fundraisers, but all its other big promotions will be moved over to Scruples Waikiki.

Scruples Waikiki is undergoing some changes to prepare for this switchover.  It will close its doors, after 25 years, and reopen as Play Bar.  Its grand re-opening will be Friday, September 5th, with Play Bar’s new Delicious Fridays.

On October 1, 2008, Hush Boutique Nightclub Lounge will open at the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel in Waikiki.  This will be an upscale nightclub for ages 23 and up.

At Restaurant Row, renovations are almost completed on two clubs.  Bonsai is a restaurant and lounge said to be similar to RumFire, but with an Asian flair.  It fills the space that Las Palmas used to claim.  And, remember Ocean Club?  Well, we all can’t wait to see it again as it opens its doors this fall, too.  Meanwhile, the Row Bar has been renamed to Bambu’s Bar and has been transformed with a new Balinese theme.
