Hawaii’s Woodshow

September 1–15

Check out beautifully handcrafted pieces at this annual woodworking show. Each piece, whether furniture, sculpture or musical instrument, is made from locally grown trees, such as koa, mango, kiawe and others. woodshow.hawaiiforest.org.
 

 

It’s said that Queen Liliuokalani knew how to play
the ukulele, guitar, piano, organ and zither. She was also a songwriter and sang alto. Don’t miss the concert in her honor on Sept. 6.

Brothers Cazimero Tribute Concert

September 6

The Hawaii Theatre comes alive with the song and dance of the Brothers Cazimero, the ladies of the Royal Dance Company and the Halau Na Kamalei O Lililehua, as they pay tribute to Queen Liliuokalani. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are $32. hawaiitheatre.com.

 

 

The Toxic Avenger Musical

September 12–29

Melvin wants to clean up Tromaville, New Jersey. Instead, the mayor’s bullies throw him into a vat of radioactive waste, where he reemerges as the Toxic Avenger. He becomes the city’s first super hero and he’s out to get rid of the bad guys, and find love in this musical comedy at Manoa Valley Theatre. manoavalleytheatre.com.
 

Goodwill Goes Glam!

September 19–22

Get some new-to-you duds and make a difference for thousands of local families during the annual Goodwill shopping event at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. The opening gala is on Sept. 19, followed by three days of bargain hunting. higoodwill.org.

Pacific Hall Reopening

September 21

After being closed for more than a year, the Pacific Hall, formerly the Polynesian Hall, reopens. Admission is free today, and the hall will showcase artifacts, some never before displayed, of Pacific Islanders, including model canoes, wooden slit drums and much more. bishopmuseum.org.
