Jazz, New Orleans-style

Ring in the fall season at the second annual Manoa Jazz Festival at the University of Hawaii Andrews Amphitheatre. Listen to the tunes of the Iolani School Stage Band, the Hawaii Pacific University Jazz Ensemble and the headlining street band, Hot 8 Brass Band. Imagine Peace

If you’re in Honokaa on the Big Island this weekend, celebrate international harmony at the third annual Parade and Festival for the United Nations International Day of Peace. See Mount Fuji

Witness majestic views of Mount Fuji at the Honolulu Academy of Arts during the museum’s opening ceremony of “Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji,” by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. The more than 500 wood block prints are some of the academy’s oldest and rarest pieces and have not been on display in a decade. The show runs until Jan. 3, 2010. Visit www.honoluluacademy.org.

Windward Tradition

One of the largest community events in Kaneohe, the Windward Hoolaulea is back for its ninth year. The free event, coordinated by Windward Community College and the Kaneohe Business Group, features keiki activities, a silent auction, a book sale, a job fair, ‘ono food booths and performances by Windward hula hālau, Led Kaapana, Holunape and Brother Noland. Museum Freebies

Visit a local museum or gallery during Smithsonian magazine’s nationwide Museum Day. Last year, more than 450 museums participated. The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu Academy of Arts, Hawaii State Art Museum, Mission Houses Museum, UH Art Gallery, Hawaii Theatre and Queen Emma Summer Palace will be offering free admission.
