6 Ways To Take Your Weekend From Glum to Glam

Sorry, dad. We’re all booked up.

The Sip List

What: Top-tier local shopping set in ultra-hip Kaka‘ako? We’re already won over. Adding on a “Sip of Summer” theme, complete with a food and cocktail pop-up and contests involving homebrewed beer, kombucha, spirits and wine, is really just the cherry on top of an already delicious Saturday night. Lust-worthy fashion vendors for this month’s Night Market include BYCHARI and A.Wattz jewelry, and Roam Hawai‘i and Bikini Bird apparel. Snack on tantalizing treats by Bonfire Pizza, Kan Zaman and Uncle’s Kitchen.
When: Saturday, June 20, 6-11 p.m. Fashion show by Mikinola at 8 p.m.
Where: 449 Cooke St.
Details: To get more info on the awesome vendors participating this month, visit honolulunightmarket.com.

The Good Girl

What: There’s only one thing that feels better than shopping for yourself: shopping for a cause. Get in on the good feels this weekend at the Calypso St.  Barth shopping event, where the store is teaming up with the Miss Hawai‘i Organization and Kapi‘olani Medical Center to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network. There will be guest appearances by Taylor Tagatac, a cancer survivor and this year’s CMN Champion, Miss Hawai‘i 2015, Jeanne Kapela, and some of the 2015 Miss Hawai‘i contestants. They’ll be modeling Calypso’s new summer line so you’ll get a gander at some of the goods before you shop till you drop at 20 percent off. Plus, you’ll have a chance to enter to win a secret lucky drawing. Good deed for the day: done and done.
When: Friday, June 19, 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Calypso St. Barth, Royal Hawaiian Center, 926-1930
Details: RSVP to royalhawaiian@calypsostbarth.com as soon as possible.

Fashion Fast-Forward

What: Saint Laurent: You know the clothes. You love the bags. You dream about the luggage. But what do you know about the man who started it all? There are a couple of reasons we’re dying to see the biopic Saint Laurent. One, it stars Gaspard Ulliel (swoon). Two, it opens a never-before-seen window into the hedonistic, ultra-creative period of this iconic couturier’s life and career. Style plus the roaring ’70s plus the free-love movement plus an icon in the making? Talk about an equation for something fabulous.
When: Friday, June 19, 7 p.m.
Where: Consolidated Kāhala Theatre, Kāhala Mall
Details: Purchase tickets at consolidatedtheatres.com.

There’s The Dior

What: Every woman has that little secret weapon to make herself better. For some, it’s chocolate. For others, it’s wine. For us, it’s a new luxury makeup bauble, because, as Liz Taylor once said, “Pour yourself a drink, put on some red lipstick and pull yourself together.” Let’s just say we’re going to be feeling at our best this weekend, thanks to the Dior National Makeup Artist Event at Neiman Marcus. Shop the newest products of the season, (Who needs falsies when you have that amazing Diorshow mascara?) plus get a free consultation and make-up application from Dior artist extraordinaire Thuy Pham. Here’s a tip: Put that expert artistry to good use and plan something extra glam for the rest of the day. Hot date, anyone?
When: Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Level one, Neiman Marcus, Ala Moana Center, 951-3406
Details: For more info on the Dior beauty line, visit dior.com.

Waffle House

What: Eating for a good cause? Gosh, life’s real tough. As if shopping for the well being of others doesn’t solidify your standing in St. Peter’s good graces enough, registering for next weekend’s Waffles for Wishes brunch event at Ward Village Shops definitely will. We’re always on board for awesome brunch fare from the likes of Koko Head Cafe, Morimoto Waikīkī, MW Restaurant, The Pig and The Lady and Whole Foods Market, but, this time, a portion of proceeds from ticket sales will go directly back to Make-A-Wish Hawai‘i to grant wishes to local keiki with life-threatening medical conditions. An $85 ticket gets you unlimited (yep, unlimited) food and drink, not to mention that priceless warm and fuzzy feeling that comes from doing something nice.
When: The event is next week Sunday, June 28, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Reserve tickets at eventbrite.com.
Details: For more updates on participating vendors, check back at wardvillageshops.com.

Up the Wall

What: You’ve admired the vibrant murals in Kaka‘ako. Heck, you may have even taken a selfie or two with some of them. At this Sunday’s 808 Urban event, Murals in Hawai‘i: Storytelling Through Place, dive a little deeper into these public expressions of creativity with a thought-provoking program that will change how you perceive the role of art in the community. University of Hawai‘i history professor John Rosa will talk about the history of murals in Hawai‘i, followed by a mural walking tour and a presentation by neighborhood youth. Finally, talk story with kumu and kūpuna on the mo‘olelo of place and get involved in a collaborative group storytelling project. Now that’s what we call a productive Sunday.
When: Sunday, June 21, 2-4 p.m.
Where: Kaka‘ako Agora, 441 Cooke St.
Details: To learn more about 808 Urban, visit 808urban.org.
