A Dress to Impress

What: Talk about putting your sewing machine creations to shame: Kaua‘i-based textile designer Louda Larrain has worked in Paris for some of the top couture houses, and her arresting, eye-catching pieces are practically wearable sculptures. This weekend marks her debut exhibit on O‘ahu at Fishcake gallery for Hawai‘i Fashion Month. Check out her gorgeous pieces available for purchase, as well as one “larger-than-life” dress crafted out of swatches from couture textiles. And you thought you were good with a needle and thread.

Stylish Night

What: Like the best friend you can always count on, Honolulu Night Market is here for you again with your monthly dose of shopping bliss. This month, the street festival is featuring Urban Outfitters (if you haven't heard, an Urban Outfitters store will be opening in Waikīkī this month), alongside local designers such as Gillia and Cassandra Rull for clothing, and BYCHARI and Nicole Kay Designs for jewelry. Plus, we couldn’t love the “runway” theme (in honor of Hawai‘i Fashion Month) more.
When: Saturday, Nov. 15, 6–11 p.m. Ava Sky and Issa de’ Mar runway show at 8 p.m.

Cut It Out

What: You love all types of design, be it fashion, furniture, events or graphics. What happens when they collide? Check it out at the DESIGN House exhibit, where CURATE décor + design, The Cut Collective, Honolulu Design Center and HONBLUE get together for an exhibit showcasing how designers can inspire each other. View the exhibit and watch a Q&A with the designers, then shop at the Cut Collective pop-up shop. Just call us patrons of the arts.

Pretty Cool

What: This is going to be one good-looking weekend at Nordstrom, with a slew of beauty events to help you refresh your routine. The one you really won’t want to miss is the Beauty Trend Show happening on Saturday, where a runway show will reveal the best beauty trends for fall. You’ll also have a chance to get some makeup, fragrance and skincare consultations, including DIY tricks and tips, as well as a free Nordstrom tote.
When: Saturday, Nov. 15, 1–4 p.m.
Where: Nordstrom, Ala Moana Center
Details: Tickets are $20 and redeemable toward a beauty purchase on the day of the event.

Wang Fun

What: This month has been crazy so far, thanks to a little event called HONOLULU Fashion Week. In fact, it’s been so crazy that we haven’t yet been able to head down to Waikīkī for last week's release of the collab collection of the year: H&M and Alexander Wang. The line is a fierce, monochrome collection of activewear-inspired pieces with an edgy, futuristic vibe. Think biker jackets, neoprene, leggings, a bondage dress and even a pair of boxing gloves. Needless to say, it’s at the top of our to-do list for this weekend.

Heaven Sent

What: Heather Brown’s fun, cheerful art always puts us in a good mood. Who doesn’t smile at the sight of chipper little koalas and happy seagulls, vibrant hibiscus and plumeria and bright, blue waves? Head to Mu‘umu‘u Heaven this weekend for an artist reception and show of all-new original art (including paintings on skateboards!) from Brown’s happy factory—er, studio. Want to bring one of the masterpieces home? Contact Mu‘umu‘u Heaven for orders and add a little sunshine to your abode.
